February 20, 2008:
- Brand new BF/BS 10" release is out NOW on Secret Eye. Nice.
- So long Providence - hello western PA. Yes, we packed up and moved to Pittsburgh. We really did it. Here we are. Pittsburgh! There is a great post-industrial decay vibe here that is really exciting. Kind of like Providence ten years ago, before it sucked.
- Finally, we have few shows coming up with our friends Nalle from Scotland. See you soon.

- BF/BS reviewed by BYRON COLEY in HARP MAGAZINE: "The eponymous fourth album by this Providence-based, improv-volk duo is their best yet. Guitar, cello, electronics and various small rackety sounds collect themselves into a haze of infinite possibilities. At certain points there's a sparseness to their approach recalling Charalambides' quiet explosions; at others there's a weird and wooly organic depth closer to some of the contemporary giants of the Finnish underground. Either way, it's a stunner."
- BF/BS reviewed by ETHAN COVEY in DUSTED: "Providence-based duo Black Forest/Black Sea have spent the past five or so years hovering on the fringes of a psych scene that has seen its popularity expand exponentially. Fronted by Jeffrey Alexander and Miriam Goldberg - they run the free-folk gathering ground Secret Eye Records - the group has seemed content to hone its sound from the sidelines. Goldberg and Alexander got their start plucking strings in the Iditarod, one of the first bands to mine the field of post-Tom Rapp folk balladry that eventually kick-started the freak folk scene - and provides most of the inspiration for the Secret Eye catalogue. When the Iditarod fizzled prior to the release of the excellent 2xCD Yuletide, Goldberg and Alexander started recording as Black Forest/Black Sea... Once again, Black Forest/Black Sea have pushed themselves deeper into their craft and in the process produced something fantastic and wholly other."

- Yeah, we haven't updated the website in ages...Let me get you up to speed:
This year we played several shows with Josephene Foster (Boston and Montague, MA), had a great time opening for the fabulous Colleen from France (also with A Hawk and a Hacksaw) and in August, we went on a mini-tour of New England with the fabulous Finnish caravan! Our friend Stefano Pilia from Italy came to visit for a month or so and we had a lovely time recording, improvising and drinking together. Finally, BF/BS has expanded to a trio with the
addition of Miriam's sister Margot on vocals, percussion and phonorgan.
- BF/BS are included on the massive new 6-CD compilation from LVD, called
"The Invisible Pyramid: Elegy Box". Not only do BF/BS kick it off (Track 1 of Disc 1),
but the compilation features Jeffrey's collage artwork. The BF/BS track is a 16-minute piece seen through the eyes of a tortoise. The box set also features 30 other amazing bands from around the world - check it out now on
Last Visible Dog.
- The first BF/BS CD is being reissued in France by
Asphalt Duchess.
- Jeffrey has a showing of his visual art scheduled for November 2005 in the galleries at AS220 in Providence.

- The new album from Fit & Limo, Terra Incognita is out now on
September Gurls. BF/BS
collabored with Fit & Limo on three tracks.
